Local Freq is an extremely easy to use location based front end to the Radio Reference website to find local police, fire, ambulance and business scanner frequencies. This is used to program your scanner with the areas latest frequencies and does not stream audio.

This app requires GPS and we recommend running this on an iPhone only. If you are running it on an iPod Touch you must have Location Services turned on for this app to function.

Get the iPhone application to have if you are a scanner enthusiast!

Easily find local police, fire, ambulance scanner frequencies using the Radio Reference website.

Launch the Local Freq app and it will automatically determine your local county and open the mobile Radio Reference website to your current county! A great time saver for travelers!

Note: Cool Ham Stuff is not affiliated with Radio Reference. If you are having issues with this app working, please contact us at [email protected]. We take great pride in our applications and take any issues seriously.

This app does one thing, and does it well. It will determine your local county and open the mobile version of RadioReference.com website to your local county.

Works on iOS 3/4/5!

**Local Freq is design to work ONLY in the United States. It will not work outside the US. It requires a USPS zip code. Specifically it will not work in Canada or Mexico.

Pros and cons of Local Freq app for iPhone and iPad

Local Freq app good for

Its pretty awsome! As long as it is updated material! Easy and fast! Great to have it all in one place!
As long as the Touch has a wifi connection and finds your location , this app is excellent. It is very handy looking up your location information, I recommend it highly!
Great app. iPhone version of Betty Bearcat, with gps location built in. Cool - thanks
I use this app when Im out storm chasing and it works great. It uses your gps coordinates to find what county you are in then gives you the frequencies for that area. With this app I have been able to give warnings to the counties and national weather service of the severe weather that Im seeing. There is no audio from the app but that is why i have me ham radio liscence!!!!!!!!

Some bad moments

I shouldve known better than to download an app that hasnt been updated in five years. This app appears to function well if youre in the United States. However up here in Canada the app does not work at all. Of course the developer has the option to listed in only the American iTunes Store but he didnt do that. This is the only time out of the 300 apps Ive ever downloaded but I wish they couldve gotten my money back.
Please add support for Apple Watch. I love the idea of this app but I would really like to see it updated to have its own built in database of all the frequencies so they can be accessed without Internet dependency. This app has a lot of potential to become great. Especially since there are not any others like it yet.
Im a RR member -- I log in, search by zip code, it shows a screen with my county name, I select it and I get returned to a page where I have to select the country I want to search, etc. Then why do I have to enter the zip? It just goes round and round in a circle. When it uses the GPS position, a similar thing occurs. A wonderful idea but I think it needs work. I sure dont understand the 5-star reviews. And this problem is present whether Im on a wifi connection or using the 3G connection.
This was the worst ap I have ever bought I have gotten free ones better than this!!! They say it will pick up your local but they are liars!! I was in 4 large cities and not one of them worked!!! They put out a bogus ap and I will be calling to get a refund so everyone report these losers!!!!!!!
This application does nothing more than list frequencies that are available on the internet for free. VERY small print says the app does not have audio. Wasted $3.
Dont waste your money. I tried several and had scanner on for over 8 hrs and it was complete silence. As also someone else posted no sounds from site. They really need to have option try before buy. I will be trying to get my money back.
